Visiting Butuan City
09.09
My best friend Rhon has been inviting me to go to Butuan again where she is working. It’s been a year and I think I’m going to say ‘yes’ now, LOL. Well, my stay there is not for leisure but for work, she had a lot of unfinished tasks waiting to be done and she needed my help. It’s not that difficult though, and she will be resigning at the end of this month so she needed to get those things done.
Anyways, at around 11 am on the first day of September, I arrived in Butuan. I was really sleepy and tired because I haven’t slept, excited? I don’t know? Hehehe… Anyways, Rhon fetch me at the Bus Terminal, we had lunch and went to her apartment. Her place is really nice, I rested for while and then we went to her office. We finished late that night. There are a few jeepneys coming and I am already sleepy… It’s hard to catch a ride there if it’s already late… As in it took 30 mins or so… urrgghh…
I don’t know if it is just me or what but it is really HOT there… Well, I haven’t got the chance to tour around the place, we we’re busy (char)… A few hours before we left Davao on the 6th, we bought a map which has the tourist destination in Butuan City on it. It was a sunday so we can’t go to the museum coz it’s closed. I wanted to see the old Spanish Houses but RHon said it’s 2 hours away from where we are at so we chose the places which is just near the City because we will be traveling back to Davao in the afternoon.
I wanted to the see the 500 year old tree but we opted to visit the nearer place so we went to Bood Promontory Eco-Park. I forgot what route number of the jeepney we took , lol. Then we stop at the ‘crossing’ (i dunno what crossing) that is just what manong driver said when we asked him if he could drop us where the Eco-park was. Well, after dropping at the crossing we ride a motorcycle, I guess it only took us 15 minutes to get there. The place was not that developed yet and there are only a few people around. We went down the stairs and I took a few photos of the place. We saw a bangka nearby and asked what is on the other side. The lady said a musuem is nearby and told us that we can go there, but unfortunately as I expected it was close. She said it is open, lol. Well, it was a fun experience riding on a bangka on Masao River, the current is strong but I’m glad we made it to the other side, Rhon helped her paddling and according to her it is the only ‘fun’ thing she experience on our mini tour, lol.
My next choice of destination is the Bonbon Shell Midden, there are no photos of the place but it is said that it is one of the historical places in Butuan City. I was really expecting that I could see big shells there, but what we saw was this:
…and I was like, ‘this’? I thought it is an historic place… I hope they could have develop it to make it appealing to tourists and i hope at least they could’ve put up a sign on the crossing and put up a written summary on why this Bonbon Shell Midden is considered an historic place. Coz when we asked the driver why he didn’t know anything, he’s also wondering why there are a lot of shells underground.
Well, I was really disappointed with the places that we’ve been to, if only we have much time left I would have seen other places, I think there are still beautiful places in Butuan City but we just don’t have enough time and know where, what rides to take and etc.
We wanted to go to Bonbon Ecopark which is just a few meters from the Bonbon Shell Midden but we were having second thoughts coz it might disappoint us again plus we were running out of time. So we had late lunch at around 2pm and we took the bus going to Davao at 3:00. My stay there is not really that exciting or fun, so I don’t know if I’m gonna go back there. Waahh… I’m so mean…
But at least I had a few good photos taken there, check it out at PhotoMIAHgraphy.
